"My beloved 18 year old cat, Violet, had a stroke in the middle of the night a month ago, and Dr. Thames and her Emergency team were amazing in saving her and keeping her going til morning so I could take her to her regular vet. Unfortunately, she continued to decline so a month later, I was referred back to see Dr. Nanai, the Veterinary Neurologist for further evaluation and an MRI. Richard, the CVT, was soothing and thorough and helped me through the pre-exam phase. Dr. Nanai was so smart and explained everything to me about what tests were needed and what she thought might be going on. I signed off on a battery of tests, said goodbye to my baby, and left. A few hours later, Dr. Nanai called and said my Violet's little heart had stopped during the MRI, they were doing CPR, but wanted my permission to stop because they had found a massive inoperable brain tumor on her brain stem that was not treatable. Dr. Nanai was amazing during that phone call, helping me make the best decision to keep my baby from suffering. When I went back to get her, she gave me a hug, as did Richard, and they prepared Violet for me in a box with her name and a heart. The entire staff helped me with my grief, and Dr. Nanai even took me into the back so I could see the MRI images myself and told me that Violet had made the decision for us. I am heartbroken, but the empathy and skill of the Veterinarians and CVTs at the VERC is top notch. Thank you for helping me during a very dark time, and thank you most of all for helping my sweet Violet."
